This policy aims to foster a focused and distraction-free learning environment while allowing for responsible and purposeful use of mobile devices in educational settings.
Staff
Staff may use their personal phones only during non-teaching or non-supervision times. This includes verbal and text use. Administrative staff is also held to the spirit of this direction.
All phones must be turned off or on silent when in class or meetings, unless for teaching and learning purposes, i.e. taking photos.
Students
Primary Years Programme (PYP)
Students are not permitted to bring mobile phones to school. If a mobile phone is found, the homeroom teacher will contact the student’s parents, who will be required to come to school to collect the device.
Years 6–9
Students are not permitted to bring mobile phones to school unless a written permission letter is issued. On the day when the students are permitted to bring their mobile phone, the students will only use it during the related subject period/s. If a student is found using a mobile phone during school hours without authorization, the following procedures will be followed:
- The teacher will confiscate the phone and hand it over to the homeroom advisor.
- The homeroom advisor will notify the parents via phone call or email.
- A note regarding the incident will be recorded on Toddle.
- The parent must collect the phone from the school.
Years 10–12
Students in Years 10–12 are permitted to have mobile phones on school premises; however, they may only use them when explicit permission has been granted by a teacher for educational purposes. Unauthorized use of mobile phones will result in the following consequences:
- First Instance
- The teacher will confiscate the phone and inform the homeroom advisor and principal.
- A note will be recorded on Toddle.
- The phone will be returned to the student at the end of the school day.
- Second Instance
- The teacher will confiscate the phone and notify the homeroom advisor, principal, and parents.
- A note will be recorded on Toddle.
- The student must collect the phone from the principal’s office at the end of the day.
- Final Instance
- The teacher will confiscate the phone and submit it to the principal’s office.
- The parents will be required to collect the phone in person.
- The student will not be permitted to bring a mobile phone to school for the whole term.
