  1. POLICY STATEMENTS

5.1   Core Principle:  The Amman Academy library exists to support the educational programme of the school by providing a globally minded, age-appropriate collection accessible to all patrons. The library is open to faculty, staff, parents, and students.

5.2   Requirement:  The following requirements apply to circulation, collection management, and library availability:

5.2.1   Student, Staff and Parent Borrowing:

  • Students, staff and parents may check out up to five books according to their year level and are able to keep them for a period of two weeks. They may renew the book for longer if the book is not on hold by another patron.

5.2.2   Management System and Databases:

  • Library materials are circulated using the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) program, Follett Destiny. It is accessible from anywhere with an internet connection. All subscription research databases are accessible through the library’s online resources.

5.2.3   Faculty / Staff Checkout:

  • Faculty may check out unlimited numbers of materials for three weeks and may renew items as needed by sending an email to library@ammanacademy.sch.id. Faculty have access to search for technology equipment and other library resources via the library catalogue.

5.2.4   Overdue Materials:

Overdue notices will automatically be sent on Monday mornings to student and parent emails.

The library will give the overdue report print out to students who have overdue books more than 14 days.

A student’s account will be FROZEN if they are overdue 30 days and more. They will not be able to checkout any books until the account is cleared.

5.2.5   Daily Laptop Checkout:  (cross-reference to IT policy in Section 8)

  • Students may borrow a temporary laptop from the library, with permission, on a day to day basis if they have problems (broken, etc.) with their own device.
  • Parents need to email the respective Principal for approval.
  • Students need to return the laptop before class dismissal.
  • There is a limited supply of daily checkout laptops.

5.2.6   Lost and Damaged Books:

  • All patrons are responsible for all items they checkout under their name and should not let friends read their books unless it has been switched in the library system. If a book is lost or damaged, the patron will be required to replace or pay the replacement value of the item.

5.2.7   Selection Policy:  The process of purchasing new books is based on knowledge of the curriculum, needs of the existing collection and the values of the country. These needs are given first consideration in the selection of materials. The following criteria are recommended as a guide to selecting the best resources for the library :

  • Literary and artistic excellence.
  • Lasting importance or significance to a field of knowledge.
  • Support of the curriculum and educational goals of the school.
  • Favorable recommendations by educational professionals.
  • Reputation and significance of the author, illustrator, or publisher.
  • Timeliness of the material.
  • Contribution to the diversity of the collection.

5.2.8   Weeding:  Weeding is essential to maintain a relevant and attractive collection. Materials will be removed from the collection when items :

  • Are no longer needed to support the curriculum or student or faculty interests.
  • Are superseded by more current information.
  • Are duplicates of existing materials.
  • Are in poor physical condition.
  • Contain obsolete subject matter.
  • Contain inaccurate information.
  • Have low circulation statistics.
  • Appropriate measures will be taken to dispose of weeded materials. If appropriate, they will be donated to the general school community.

All weeded materials will be deleted from the library system and have all library markings, such as barcodes and stamps, blacked out to prevent items from accidentally returning to the library.

5.2.9   Parent or Community Complaints:  If a parent or member of the school community has concerns about a book in the collection, the following steps should be taken:

  • Patron shares the concerns with the Library Coordinator.
  • Patron must complete the following form: AA Request for Consideration of Library Materials Form (or AA Request for Reconsideration of Library Materials Form, Bahasa Indonesia).
  • Library Coordinator to discuss with the relevant Principal.
  • Library staff are able to add a note and alert to Destiny, if needed, to the student’s account regarding any wanted restrictions or concerns.
  • Library Coordinator and Principal will follow up with the patron regarding next steps.

5.2.10   Library Availability for School Community:

  • The library is open for the school community on Monday and Tuesday from 15:00 to 16:00.
  • Year 5 and younger students must be accompanied by a supervising adult.
  • Parents are invited and encouraged to apply for a library account in order to checkout materials using the application links provided by the library (English and Bahasa Indonesia versions).
