Greetings, Amman Academy community! I absolutely love being part of the teaching and learning team here in beautiful Sumbawa. My name is John Jacobs, and I was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia. I’ve been teaching in primary schools since 2009, and love what I do. There’s something incredibly special about teaching and learning alongside children, especially in Grade 3 where curiosity, creativity, and confidence really begin to shine.
My teaching journey began after completing a Bachelor of Education at Deakin University. I spent my first ten years teaching Grade 5 and 6, followed by three wonderful years overseas in Thailand, working in Grade 4 and later in a Middle School Humanities role. Each experience has shaped the educator I am today and deepened my belief that strong relationships, joy in learning, and a sense of belonging are at the heart of a great classroom.
I’m here in Townsite with my wife, Taptim, and our two gorgeous children, Raywatt and Jessica, who also attend Amman Academy. Outside the classroom, I’m energised by family time, music, sport, history, fitness, travel, and of course, Indonesia – this country is luar biasa!
