I come from the seaside town of San Diego, California in the United States of America. I am extremely excited to join the community at Sekolah Buin Batu. I will be teaching MYP English, English as an Additional Language, and will be the Service as Action Coordinator. Over the past 25 years, I worked in a predominantly Spanish speaking school in California and have also taught in Thailand, Kenya and Ukraine.
I attended the University of California at Santa Barbara where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Literature. I later received a Master’s Degree in English Language Acquisition. Over my educational career, I have primarily taught English as an Additional Language to new English Language Learners. This experience has made me a culturally-aware and curious global citizen. These traits have allowed me to become a compassionate teacher who creates a classroom where students are comfortable and thrive in learning a second language.
I first traveled to Indonesia 30 years ago to surf and explore the islands of Bali, Java and Sumatra. I fell in love with the people, food (ayam bakar and sambal matah), and amazing surf. I have returned every year since and for the last five years have lived in Sumatra and Bali with my daughter Emma. I love traveling, reading, music and sunsets. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to be a member of SBB and the local community.
