Student Support Services

At Amman Academy, we believe every child can thrive when provided with the right support at the right time. Our Student Support Team — including the Student Support Coordinator, School Counselors, SEN Teachers, Occupational Therapist, Learning Support staff, and Shadow Teachers — works collaboratively with teachers and families to ensure students feel safe, included, and empowered in their learning journey.

Through a structured, school-wide system of support, we provide academic, social-emotional, and therapeutic services that promote resilience, independence, and meaningful participation for every student.

Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS)

Amman Academy implements a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) to ensure timely and responsive support for all learners. This framework enables early identification of needs and promotes inclusive practices aligned with IB principles of equity and access.

Response to Intervention (RTI)

RTI is the structured process within MTSS that guides how we:

  • Identify learning needs
  • Provide targeted interventions
  • Monitor progress
  • Adjust support based on data

The three tiers of RTI:

  • Tier 1 – Universal Support: High-quality instruction and social-emotional learning for all students; usually around 85% of the student population in each class
  • Tier 2 – Targeted Support: Small-group or short-term interventions; usually around 5-15% of the student population in each class
  • Tier 3 – Intensive Support: Individualized plans and specialized services; usually around 1-5% of the student population in each class.

This ensures that support decisions remain student-centered, measurable, and responsive.

Junior School Counseling

Junior School counseling develops the social-emotional competencies that underpin the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills.

Counseling focuses on:

  • Self-management and emotional regulation
  • Positive relationships and communication
  • Conflict resolution and resilience
  • Reflection and learner agency

Through preventative SEL lessons, small-group sessions, individual support, and collaboration with teachers, students build confidence, empathy, and responsibility within an inclusive learning community.

Senior School Counseling

The Senior School Counselor supports students in Years 7–12 in both social-emotional well-being and university guidance.

Counseling focuses on:

  • Emotional regulation and stress management
  • Peer relationships and self-advocacy
  • Personal development and resilience
  • Alignment with the IB Learner Profile and ATL skills

Students receive individual counseling, group sessions, workshops, and coordinated support with teachers and leadership.

University & Career Guidance

Students are guided through:

  • Career exploration and pathway planning
  • Global university options and application timelines
  • Parent consultations and workshops
  • Career Day coordination
  • Application and decision-making support

Our goal is to prepare students academically, emotionally, and personally for life beyond school.

Junior School

Individualized Academic Support

Our Individualized Academic Support program helps students thrive through personalized, responsive learning support. We work with students who benefit from additional guidance in specific subjects, skill development, or classroom routines. Support may include Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and in-class assistance from shadow teachers when appropriate.

Each plan is tailored to the student’s strengths, needs, and learning goals. In collaboration with classroom teachers and families, we adapt lessons and provide strategies to ensure learning remains accessible and meaningful.

Support may focus on:

  • Literacy and numeracy development
  • Attention and organization
  • Classroom routines and learning skills

Our goal is to build confidence, independence, and steady progress over time.

Independence & Participation Support

This program supports students in accessing learning and participating confidently in all areas of school life. It is designed for students who benefit from additional guidance with routines, engagement, and individualized goals.

Through targeted sessions and classroom collaboration, we support the development of:

  • Organization and attention
  • Communication skills
  • Emotional regulation

Students are guided in building independence in daily school expectations, including managing belongings, following schedules, asking for help, and using sensory or calming tools when needed.

We also prepare students for shared experiences such as group projects, presentations, and assemblies to ensure meaningful participation. Close collaboration with teachers and families supports consistent growth and confidence.

Senior School

Individualized Academic Support (Functional Academics)

The Senior School SEN Program provides individualized academic support that enables students to engage in learning in meaningful and practical ways.

Students receive functional literacy and numeracy instruction through task-based, small-group, or one-to-one support, alongside differentiated classroom accommodations and assistive technology as needed.

Our inclusive approach promotes participation, confidence, positive relationships, and resilience. By integrating academic, social, and emotional development, we empower students to grow as capable and independent learners.

Life Skills & Transition Pathway

A key component of the program prepares students for independence beyond school.

Students develop:

  • Self-management and personal responsibility
  • Independent living skills
  • Structured transition plans for post-school pathways

Through vocational exposure and school-based internships — such as supported store helper roles — students practice real-life work routines in guided environments. They learn to organize tasks, follow instructions, complete responsibilities, and communicate appropriately in workplace settings.

These experiences build confidence, resilience, and readiness for future pathways.

Occupational Therapy services support students’ ability to participate meaningfully in learning and daily routines.

Areas of focus include:

  • Fine and gross motor development
  • Sensory processing and self-regulation
  • Attention and learning readiness
  • Independence in daily living skills
  • Emotional and behavioral regulation

Therapy is integrated into the school environment and delivered in collaboration with teachers and families to ensure consistency and impact.
